The sixth meeting of the Just Transition Commission took place on 12 September 2025 and focused on a just transition for Agriculture, Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry.
A roundtable with officials from the Departments of Agriculture, Housing, Local Government and Heritage, and the Taoiseach took place. This followed a number of pre-engagements carried out with stakeholders, including a survey that issued to agriculture stakeholders as identified under the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s Common Agriculture Policy Consultative Forum, and other bilateral meetings.
Discussions explored how just transition principles are being embedded into agriculture and land‑use policy.
The Commission carried out field visits on 25 September to talk to farmers and agriculture students in County Tipperary. The Commission met Ailbhe Gerrard of Brookfield farm, visited Gurteen College and talked to local Signpost Farmer John Barry and Teagasc discussion group led by Teagasc advisor Patrick O’Donoghue on Future Beef.
